Planting The Seed - Leading into new stories.
“When we deny our stories, they define us." - Brené Brown
Last week, in the paid subscription of ‘The Harvest, ‘ I spoke about the power of the new story and the old story.
As we prepare to move to the farm in nine months, I am between the old and the new stories. Not the right or wrong story, but different stories.
I am currently a student in a year-long nature-based Leadership Training program. Over the weekend, my fellow students came to the farm with their generous hearts and helping hands.
We spent Saturday removing blackberries, thistles, and holly, tending to our two-year-old Landcare plantings and cleaning out the creek.
We were physically creating a new story for this area of bush, a story in which there is now more sun and water for the species we want to thrive there.
We also discovered yabbies in our creek, something we would not have found if we had not spent time clearing out what was no longer supporting the environment.
A client recently shared that the environment she is working in as a leader is changing for the better because she is doing the deep work of professional and personal development to nourish her inner environment and impact the outer environment.
“I now have a deeper understanding of the stories I tell myself about my leadership and how that impacts how I lead, where I own my strengths and where I apologise for my existence!”
And in the words of Brenè Brown:
“When we deny our stories, they define us. When we own our stories, we get to write a brand new ending. Write a new ending for yourself, for the people you’re meant to serve and support, and for your culture.”
If leadership is an area where you want to move into a new story or enhance the one you are currently leading within, join me for the Spring Dare To Lead™ Retreat -September 13-15, Victoria, Australia.
The Harvest - One Very Real Action.
Pressing send gave me a range of emotions; funnily enough, excitement was not one of them. It does not always feel good in the moment of action, but it does feel right.
